The Academy’s IQ Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Professional Private Investigation (RQF) is an online distance learning course.  After enrolling on the course you will be given access to our student portal and be able to access your course materials, contact your course tutor and use the student forum.  You will be able to start studying straight away.

The IQ Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Professional Private Investigation (RQF) has been designed primarily for those people who have little or no private investigation experience or qualifications. It is a fully comprehensive course that will teach you everything you need to know to either gain employment as a qualified professional private investigator or set up and operate your own private investigation business.

How it’s made

The course  is made up of 12 modules, at the end of each module you will need to complete a multi-choice questionnaire which is automatically marked once completed.  After completing all 12 modules and provided you have progressed well you will be able to sit the final exam, again, this is online, through IQ’s exam portal.

The final exam consists of three papers, 1 multi-choice questionnaire paper and 2 short answer papers, each given 1 hour to complete.  The pass mark is 70%. You will also need be invigilated via Skype whilst you sit the exam. Please ensure you have a strong broadband connection.

This qualification is knowledge-based and it is assessed by internally set online assessment under exam conditions. This includes one multiple choice exam and two short written question and answer exams. These three examinations cover all of the assessment criteria of the five mandatory units.

The two online short answer exams are internally set and marked and quality assured by IQ using the IQR assessment portal. One of the short answer exams covers assessment criteria from units 1 and 3 while the other short answer exam covers assessment criteria from units 2, 4 and 5. Both online short answer exams must be taken under exam conditions and learners have 1 hour to complete each exam. Both of the exams consist of 13 questions totalling 50 marks and learners must achieve 70% to pass (35/50).

The MCQ exam is marked automatically and quality assured by IQ. It must be taken under exam conditions and learners have 45 minutes to complete the exam. Multiple choice question papers consist of 25 questions and learners must achieve 70% to pass (18 out of 25). The MCQ exam covers assessment criteria from all five units.

Learners must pass all three exams in order to achieve the qualification.

This qualification is not graded; successful learners achieve a pass.
